Triangle Java Users Group Presents:

Jaxcent - pure Java AJAX API

presented by Mukesh Prasad

Monday, June 16, 2008
6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

4001 E. Chapel Hill-Nelson Highway
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

Abstract:
Jaxcent is a Java-only API for AJAX. JavaScript programming is not required in Jaxcent, beyond adding a single JavaScript include statement to HTML content. Jaxcent works with standard Java servlet containers and provides classes matching elements of the Document Object Model (DOM), that can be instantiated to match HTML elements existing on the page. These classes provide methods for interacting with the HTML elements on the page, and for receiving events originating from the HTML element, all in Java. In addition to dynamic interactions with the HTML elements, Jaxcent also provides automatic session data management.

The initial release (V1) of Jaxcent was a TRIJUG topic last summer. The initial release was limited in scope, as a client-side Internet Explorer Automation Java API, and was designed for closed intra- nets.

The new release (V2) is a full-fledged Java AJAX solution for the open internet.

About the Speaker:
Mukesh Prasad has been in the software industry since pre-historic times (well, speaking in "internet time") and has actually worked for now extinct dinosaurs such as Digital Equipment Corporation and Software Arts (Digital Equipment originated the "minicomputer", Software Arts was the inventor of the spreadsheet.)

He has worked in C, C++, Java and C#. He works as an independent consultant, and in his free time has developed various software packages and sites. Some of his work can be found at:
- http://www.ezjcom.com A bridge builder that allows calling COM from Java or Java from Visual Basic or C#. Jaxcent is an outgrowth of this project.
- http://www.blazix.com A Java web/application server.
- http://www.jsptut.com A JSP Tutorial site. Somewhat popular, usually ranks #1 in Google for "JSP Tutorial".

Jaxcent is his latest project. Version 1 of Jaxcent (presented at Trijug last year) was limited in scope as a Java API for Internet Explorer automation, and was designed for closed intranets. Version 2 of Jaxcent is a full-fledged Java AJAX solution for the open internet.
